E3 2011 Preview

As promised in my E3 Conference Times post, here is a preview of the event with what games will be showcased.  E3 runs from the 6th-7th of June, and as a lot of search engine results regarding times lead back here please click on the E3 conference times link for those.

Here’s are the publishers that will definitely be exhibiting at E3 2011, along with the games that they’ve confirmed to be released within the next year or so.  Updates will be made to this post regularly with any updates, and be sure to check out the list of rumoured games further down the page.  As always comments are welcome, specifically with what you’re looking forward to seeing or what you’d like to be announced.

Friends of DTO

Today I thought I’d tell you guys a little about the various blogs and websites affiliated with this one, as each one is well worth a visit for one reason or another.

Dav3design

http://dav3design.wordpress.com

We’ll start with Dav3design, run by my friend Dave who I’ve known for more than 20 years.  His blog features an eclectic mix of personal adventures, unusual photography and some excellent 3D designs mainly based on various vehicles.

He updates the site regularly so it’s definitely worth bookmarking it, or if you’re a fellow WordPress user, subscribing.

DXX: The Blog

http://dxxtheblog.wordpress.com

Next us is DXX: The Blog, which is one for the wrestling fans; e-fedding in particular.  DXX was one of the most active and consistently enjoyable e-fed forums between 2006 and 2009, in that three year period seeing some memorable feuds, characters, title changes and controversies.

Unfortunately the site was eventually shut down, but fortunately most of the core members keep in contact one way or another and this blog is designed to chronicle an eventual return for the site.  If  e-feds or wrestling in general interest you keep an eye on this one.

Devastating The Obvious Is Now On Twitter

Just a quick update, after receiving a comment asking about the site on Twitter I thought it was a most excellent idea to set up a page over there, which you can find at http://twitter.com/DTO_Wordpress

All posts from the blog will also be automatically posted there, as well as other tweets (usually) related to the site, so get following! :)

Playstation Emulator for Android Developed

PSX4Droid is an interesting application for high-end Android phones that allows Playstation emulation to now be possible.  It works almost flawlessly with the exception of minor stuttering issues here and there, along with a couple of sound problems – sometimes the music inexplicably slows down or speeds up for some reason.

If you can ignore these flaws the app looks pretty good, virtual buttons are used like in most other games for the phone but for those who dislike this control method (because of the button placement it’s quite easy to accidentally press the menu button for example) it also supports Wii remote compatibility.

Now here comes the legal stuff, my knowledge is fairly limited on the subject but as far as I know the emulator itself is perfectly legal and currently costs $6 (about £4) on the Android Market.  However what you do with it from there most likely isn’t, seeing as the game ROMs (emulated games) are generally illegal.  However, depending on which country you live in ROMs are allowed for backup purposes, so for example if you own an existing hard copy or paid for digital version of Metal Gear Solid would be allowed a backup version on you Android.  It might be worth checking up on your country’s laws before going any further.

Of course if you’re reading this it likely means you’re interested in checking out exactly what the PSX4Droid has to offer regardless, but that little disclaimer is probably necessary all the same.  I therefore can’t tell you that Rom Buddy is a good site to download from and AndroZip is also a good site to visit to get you started.

Internet Memes

I’ve never been much of a fan of Internet memes, fads and whatever else, but upon discovering an Auto-Meme website it struck me just how out of touch I am with the world of teh Interwebz.

Looking at these randomly generated memes like “I think Nine Inch Nails is a pretty cool guy. Eh punches gamers and doesn’t afraid of anything” and “your beer is not hairy” means literally nothing to me and isn’t even slightly amusing, I guess that comes with not being apart of the 4Chan dickhead movement that saw their head honcho named ‘most influential person of 2008‘ and post masses of porn posted across YouTube just because they can. Of course that website is seemingly responsible for nearly every meme found on the Internet, and while some like Lolcats have some measure of humorous appeal a large percentage of memes (Rickrolling in particular) are incredibly irritating.

Despite being a young man of 24 and proficient enough when it comes to the Internet, memes still continue to baffle me. When I see things like “So I herd u liek Mudkipz” I just want to repeatedly slam my head against the desk, considering the World Wide Web is one of the most significant inventions ever it’s appalling to see it flooded with so much crap by people who are in a lot of cases a similar age to me. It wasn’t an issue when it was confined to a small dark corner where the community could giggle among themselves from the comfort of a mental home or parents basement, but now it’s spread to a lot of websites I visit every day where I don’t expect to find random idiotic memes that make no sense other than to a bunch of paedophiles and porn addicts from /b/. They should keep their fucking memes to themselves.

FAP TO THE PLANETS! Oh God, I’m so random.
